Happy New Year from Orkney in Scotland! I made a hexagonal wall hanging, with different textured materials. People could then go up and 'feel' the picture. One blind lady said she was going to get her daughter to make her one.
Good Luck everybody!

well several things actually.
I make hexagon quilts, cathedral windows and this year I hope to use them to make a rug.

I thought I was being clever just trying to keep them organized by color. haha. I actually made a carpet bag type duffle which is all scrappy and I love using it.
Happy New Year! and what a great giveaway!!

The most creative thing I've done with my scraps so far is to cut them into strips, squares, etc for future projects. I'm back into quilting for only a couple of months and I don't have enough to make anything yet .. but when I do, I'll be ready.

Happy New Year...

And, thank you for having a giveaway.

Sue said...

I've been really having fun with my scraps.

I often use them for applique projects.

I cut many of them into 1 1/2" strips these days and make strip quilts or Amish Bar blocks with them. I've finished two so far, one is my 16 year old daughter's wedding or moving out quilt, the other went to my older daughter's boyfriend's house for on his couch.

I have a third in progress and am enjoying them so much still that I think I'll be doing more!

GoldenThreads said...

I'm a new quilter, so scrappy projects have been few. The most appreciated was a quilt for my granddaughter's doll. I was tickled when she said, "You know Gramma...I've got TWO babies!"

Time to get started on that other doll quilt!

Jackie said...

I just started with my first quilt class in October. So I have not made anything with them yet. I have, however, cut them into strips and squares using Bonnie Hunters system for scraps. So while I haven't made anything, I think I'm being smart with doing something with them to make future scrap projects easier. And when fabric is $9-$10 a yard, it doesn't make sense to throw scraps out!

Beth said...

what a great question! I am saving my scraps to make little soft soled baby shoes with larger pieces, or fabric covered buttons. Not to creative, eh?

Mel said...

Happy New Year to you!

I keep my scraps in a basket and my 3 year old son loves to go through them and organize them by color and 'fold' them while I sew.

Marlene said...

Great giveaway!

The most creative thing I made with my scraps was Karen Stones pattern, Cinco de Mayo. My goal was to not buy any fabric or repeat the use of a fabric (except within the same arc). Towards the end, it was really challenging.

Hi Sherri: I saw your question and thought it was a good creativity question (remember my blog post about creativity??). I had a lot of scraps that were red. They weren't really large enough to put back in the bins and I don't have scrap bins. Instead of tossing them, because they were bit large for that, I started to sew the tiny bits of fabric together to make new fabric. I mostly do it with red fabrics, but have recently gotten a lot more blue scraps, so I may start with blue as well. I sew the scraps together, even really tiny ones, using a kind of crazy patch method and it makes a new piece of fabric. I saw this on Simply Quilts. A woman named Shannon Williams was making what she called mosaic quilts. She would sew together different pieces of fabric and then cut her patch out of that new fabric. Sadly, her website no longer works and she seems to have disappeared from the scene. I like this, because I don't have to worry about where to put my scraps. It is also a very freeing way to sew. I don't really worry about seam allowances AND I get new fabric. I haven't used the new fabric for a project, but I now have a piece slightly smaller than a fat quarter. I do intend to cut patches out of this new fabric and make something. Stay tuned to find out what!

Ruth said...

Wow...love this giveaway. I don't throw scraps away so I have tons of them. I recently made a large pumpkin with embellished panels and digging through my scraps I found just enough wool scraps to do the wool panels without buying any wool. The flowers were perfect with wool flowers and embroidered stems. Great fun.

I hand embroidered all the squares in a quilt one year and would these scissors of come in handy! About 2 years ago I had little bits and pieces of fabric left over from quilting that wasn't big enough to do much with for quilting so I decided to make a plant pot by using the left over fabric. I took an old galvanized pail and decoupaged the pieces onto the pail making it a wonderful plant pot. It turned out real nice and the handle to the pail was used to hang it on the porch for a hanging plant. Thanks for Sharing and Happy New Year.

I have made a "patches" quilt with my scraps. There's a picture of it, with my husband and son wrapped in it on the bottom of my blog spot. I would love to be entered into your giveaway for the scissors! I adore scissors and keep them all through the house. I have several shoe boxes filled with the tiniest scraps of fabric. I use these for paper piecing. I did well over a dozen paper pieced ornaments for gifts this year, all from scraps in one box, LOL. If I win, you may contact me at stitcherylove[at]yahoo[dot]com. Thank you!

One thing I did was make a miniature quilt. My scraps were perfect for this. It's a good idea to look for very tiny prints or solid reading fabrics. Large prints would not work for miniature quilts. Breezy1atgmaildotcom

I'm not sure if this qualifies as clever, but I took all the leftovers from years of sewing for my daughter and cut them up and pieced them into a 9-patch quilt with no two fabrics being paired more than once. That was a long time ago!

Very nice giveaway!

The most clever thing I did with my scraps was to give them away! That way they will be used.

Most of my quilts are my own designs. I guess that is fairly creative. Love the scissors. Thanks for entering me!

I use scraps to make greeting cards.
I also make doll quilts for the little girls--first my daughters and now my granddaughters...

I mostly only make quilts or blocks with my scraps but I have torn them into strips to tie around the tops of jars or to hang ornaments. I've also used torn strips and red beads and spools to make a garland for my Christmas tree.

Hi please enter me in your give a way. The most clever thing I have done with scraps was make a disappearing 9 patch Christmas quilt.

Hi! and Happy New Year! I don't think I have been very clever with my scraps, and now am looking for ways to use them. I made felt boards for the grandchildren with scrap shapes for making landscapes, etc., and also cut MANY 2 inch squares for the elementary school teachers to use in their projects.

I made these 6 family charm quilts.

The most creative thing I have done with my fabric scraps (and they have to be so small that there is nothing else to do with them but trash them) is to set them out for the birds to use in their nests.

I'm doing applique now and realize how many scraps I use for this. I'm making berries tonight for my current project. About 45 of them *~*

Hi, thank you for the fabulous prize. I absoultely LOVE my Ginghers, BUT I do not have an embroidery pair, and could sure use them !

The most creative thing I have done with my fabric scraps is to make a strippy notebook cover with lots of pockets and pen holders.
