Coming down to the wire

I redid one wall of my studio last week. I have had my fabrics in a big lateral file, wrapped on hanging file folders.
Fabrics wrapped on file folders
It was a good system but the cabinet took up a lot of floor space. I also kept missing some of the fabrics I had because they are smaller yardages and didn't show up very well. Lastly, the lighting to see the true colors was lacking.

I have seen a lot of studios where people wrapped their fabric around comic book boards. That appealed to me. I already had one bookshelf that would work and found another one for less than $40.  Here are a few before and after photos:
Before: cabinet holds stabilizer,
white shelf on the left holds
bobbin winder for Sweet 16 Quilting machine
After-Mostly just a shorter shelf on the left

Before: black lateral file with fabric
and TV sits on top
After: TV is now mounted on the wall and my
computer desk is underneath

My computer desk, and a bookshelf
After: My desk moved to the left, small
filing cabinet for yarn next to it.

After: shelves with wrapped fabric
After: Closeup look at the fabric

I love seeing the fabric better. I have moved some novelty fabrics into the color-way groups. Now I really know what colors I need to add to my stash. I didn't have as much fabric as I thought. Gee, maybe I need to buy more?

In other news, we have a pretty silly tree this year. It is a live one and we didn't decorate it for several weeks. It is a $10 grocery store tree and it is drinking water like crazy! I truly expected it to be dead on arrival. Silly tree!

In quilty news, here is another one of the strip quilts. I am appliqueing thirteen stars on it. It will be a gift for someone I know who served in Vietnam.

In family news, here is our Young Man next to his first car! (Can you hear my gray hairs sprouting?)

PHEW!!!
Let's take a hint from Dexter here, and go take a nap!
Till next time, happy holidays and happy sewing y'all!
