What do YOU do in the studio at 5a.m.?

I take photos in mine. Well, truth be told, I don't always do this, but this morning I did! You can see my white bathrobe at the bottom of the photo. The blue is a corner of my studio table. I am taking a photo of a quick project I am working on.

My project is Cyrus the bird from the planet Loopiland. He is a 4x6 inch postcard and will be donated to a cause to raise funds for animal rescue. He also is a self-challenge piece for the 'Fast Friday Fabric Challenge' for September 2012.
The loops are made from a tee-shirt that I cut fringe from. I appliqued the body and head, then machine-blanket-stitched them into place. The neck, beak, and legs are all thread painted on. The head and body are stuffed with a bit of extra batting and I free-motion quilted the whole piece. The eyes are sequin and bead eyes that will be sewn down later today. I used a decorative stitch to edge the piece. I hope someone likes it enough to buy it and help out a good cause!

In other news, I had been stuck on this landscape quilt again. I wanted to make the tree better. I tried paint, embroidery thread, silk ribbon, non-silk ribbon, and beads for the tree leaves on the small tree. I had an epiphany the other night and put this wool roving up on it:

I am liking how this is looking now. I will be felting it down and shaping it as I go, but I think this is the way to go on this piece!

It seems I don't post much any more. This little posting took an hour from start to finish. It takes me forever to take photos and edit them. The writing part doesn't take but a few minutes. I often do not post because I don't have the time to sit and edit photos! I hope you click on one or two of the photos to see the details in them.

Anyway, it is now after six in the morning and I need more coffee. Have a great weekend everyone and thank you for stopping by!

I edit photos while I am on the phone with my Grama. I don't need to think very much to do it, so it works.
