Fantasy Land of Unicorns

WAY back in 2003, give or take, I began the U is for Unicorn quilt. It is from a pattern book by Eileen Campbell. I have been working on it for at least ten years and today I finished the top!!! I will be backing it and using it as a wall hanging. It measures about 66" by 84". Here are several shots of the top:

Here is the whole thing, hanging from my back porch:

You can click on the photos to see closeup detailing.
I can't believe it is finally done!!!
I am going to go bask in the glory of having this project nearly complete. I will be doing a simple backing and no batting, or it will get too heavy. I think I will be doing a decorative stitch in the red framing to hold the back and front together and to keep it from sagging. Thanks for looking!

Happy Sewing!!!

Congrats on getting this top done.....it is marvelous! Persistence pays. :-)
Are you planning to "quilt" by machine or by hand?

This quilt was machine appliquéd and I used several built in stitches from my machine for free motion
embroidery touches. I plan to use some of those types of stitches in the red frames to hold the back to the front. No batting, just backing. It will be a wall hanging.

Wow does not begin to describe this wonderful quilt - amazing is more the word I'm looking for. What a treasure and pat yourself on the back , finishing something like this is quite an accomplishment .

That is absolutely beautiful! I bet you can't stop looking at it. Good idea to omit the batting for the weight of it. And you know, I am here to see your Black Friday mystery quilt plans... :)

Hello! What beautiful work! I wish I had the skill and patients for a job like that. The design is absolutely delightful. Unicorns are so popular again. My daughters are just crazy for them. Way to go!
